Change Your Blow Dryer, Change your Life! – Review of Red by Kiss Detangler 2000 Blow Dryer

Health & Beauty

This year, I started the process of heat training my hair.  I’ve given myself blow-out before, but to be perfectly honest who has time for natural curly or natural heat trained hair (is what I said I my head and out loud to any friend who would listen)?

I mean wash day was a SMOOTH 4+ hours because detangling counts.  I’m a super happy camper with braids because… hello #gymlife.  But you can’t heat train in braids, and I’m committed to knowing how to deal with my hair so I said “Self. Take this seriously!”

I have 3C type hair that is low porosity and HIGH shrinkage.

And part of that move was realizing my old blow dryer was a part of the problem.  “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” was not the mantra for my current situation. Blow dryers have changed since I last bought one (7 years) and I needed something that could blow my hair COMPLETELY dry in under 2 hours. (I know, I know #thickhair girl problems).

RED by Kiss Detangler 2000 Ceramic Blow Dryer.

This bad boy was 24.99 at my local beauty supply store (US Hair) and I’d try the local beauty supply store before Amazon because to get it with the detangle comb attachment raised the price to $42

My previous Process:

Wash

Condition

Deep Condition

Detangle

Blow Dry

Ceramic Brush

Press

Curl

SHEEEEEESH

New Process:

Wash

Condition

Deep Condition

Detangle

Blow Dry

Flat Iron/ Silk Press

The game changer was my new blow dryer.  Like WHO KNEW.  That jawn got me HIGHLY right in about 30-40 minutes.  Now, it wasn’t silk press straight like the box, but to go from ear skimming Afro to shoulder length blowout in that time frame and be completely dry; cut my hair time down tremendously.

I let my homegirl borrow it and she was like “yooooooo…”

This blow dryer is THE TRUTH.  With proper use, heat training has been less of a hassle.  I do this process every 2-3 weeks and have not experienced any NOTICEABLE heat damage (I’ve been doing this for about three months).  I also don’t curl or press my hair with heat every day.  Now if I could conquer this humidity…IMG_4086

Free Lipstick!!**Update**

Health & Beauty

MAC is wild wack for the stunt they pulled this morning.

I called myself getting there “early” by getting there at 9:45am. Swoop in swoop out get my lipstick maybe get a complimentary (paid of course) lip liner because I mean I just got a free lipstick right? Wrong. The line was insane. Like INSANE. But it’s MAC it’s free and it’s a large selection to chose from so… I’ll wait.

Then an (un)fortunate happenstance occurred. The line ended at the beginning allowing me to see the colors available for free.  Y’all… y’all:

This was it. This was what they had to choose from. A FAR cry from all the beautiful colors they teased on their Instagram feed. I mean I know it said selection but all of these colors look the same. I was like (#throwback) “thank you based god for letting me see this foolery here at MAC today.” Still of fan of MAC. NOT a fan of the shenanigans.

Well it’s #NationalLipstickDay and true to form MAC is re-emerging as a heavy hitter.  Not that MAC hasn’t ALWAYS produced high quality makeup, however the emerging of lower cost products with comparable quality has clearly given the more high end brands a run for their money.  Their #Lipslipslips campaign has been blessing us all summer.  But I don’t see anyone doing this.  I tell you what… I choose free lipstick over free shipping any day!

So here is the rundown:

  1. You don’t need to buy ANYTHING to get a free lipstick!
  2. It’s first come for serve while supplies last.
  3. It’s in person NOT online
  4. From what I’ve researched, much like the campaign last month, there is a special selection of lipstick that you choose from.

MAC Lipstick 💄 Sale 6/21 – 6/25

Blog, Health & Beauty

I see you 👀 MAC. It’s not even National Lipstick Day and you’re out here trying to keep up with the jonses.  I’m TOTALLY not mad at MAC’s current buy 2 Lip products get one free lipstick deal and you shouldn’t be either.

But here are the details:

It’s not buy 2 lip PRODUCTS get ANY 3rd lipstick free, you only have 6 lipstick colors to choose from.

AND… In store varies from online (sad 🐼).

I went in for the color Barbecue but actual MAC locations (Columbus, OH) only had Mangrove. Two totally different colors, both bright but different. Also once they sell out of the free color, it’s gone. And they are not swapping a similar color. They have special product to (my guess is) ensure no shrinkage during this promotion.

Call ahead. I had to go to two locations and wait like a half hour just for the free lipstick and switch up my purchase options… 😒.  It might sound like a hassle, but IRL it’s not if you have the time and were gonna kill time some other way (that involved spending your hard earned coins). #Mineaswell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All & all, I’m pleased and so much so that I figured it’s worth he sharing!

Get Into It – 7 Ways to get Healthier and STAY that Way

Blog, Health & Beauty

7E3275A9-EE7A-4628-B6D8-D04CEC7D73AEI’m not getting any younger. And at this place, I can honestly say it’s harder to fully embrace a healthier lifestyle the more years I have behind me. I mean my teenage years lied to me. They told me if I wish it, it will come (well… not boobs). My twenties lied to me. They told me minimal effort can yield maximum results. And I pretty much rebelled in my thirties because I adopted the you earned it, treat yourself mantra. Now on the very cusp of 40, I find myself chasing time down to gain a lifestyle I should’ve adopted LONG ago.

But let me share a few key ways to grab a healthy lifestyle by the neck and make it your punk.

1. Learn the Difference between Treats and Snacks.
For some reason, I hear Biggie Small’s 10 crack commandments here (number 9 should’ve been number 1). I’ve learned that snacks are the healthy in between meal choices. Treats are those one off, you’ve worked hard this week have a ding dong. But like you legit cannot have a pack of Ding Dongs every day for a snack. 310 calories of sugary destruction. Have a Honeycrisp apple instead.

2. Do it in phases
Ramp yourself up into a lifestyle. Dropping all that you know to pick up new stuff almost always ends in failing and you end up on a binge-a-thon eating ice cream naked in the mirror crying and swearing you see yourself expanding… no? just me? Well, that escalated quickly.

3. It’s gonna take longer; Keep going.
Celebrate the victories, don’t let the setbacks derail you. The older you get, the longer it takes to see progress. I personally suggest food lifestyle change and exercise combo to jumpstart what you want to see. Let’s be honest you can exercise all you want, if you’re still making poor food choices, it’s like casting pearls before swine.

4. Be Aggressive!
I know I said do things in phases but there’s a battle rhythm to that too. Push yourself to do one more rep. Commit to going to the gym three times a week (I did that). Create GOOD habits and do your very best to stick to them.

5. DETOX.
I cannot stress this enough. When I wasn’t seeing real progress after month 1, I thought “detox kid”. So, I cut out carbs and sweets for one month (NOT February).
Broham.
Changed.
My.
Life.
Aside from the fact that no one was harmed from my detox, I learned HOW to really eat better, I learned that I was addicted to sugar and carbs. And I learned how to level set eating healthy. It’s really changed my outlook on good food choices. BUT…

UNDERSTAND WHAT DETOX CAN DO TO YOU and why it’s good for you
Detox, much like pretty…hurts. I feel like by the time you realize you need to detox from something, you’ve worked up at least a mild addiction to it. So cleansing yourself is key to really get a foothold on healthy lifestyle changes. To be honest I cannot consume sugar like I used too. I’ve had an adverse affect to it lately. What was once a “norm” is now way too much. But isn’t that what we want to see when we make lifestyle changes?

6. Invest in yourself – buy cute (inexpensive) workout clothes

So this worked for me.  I went to Five and Below and balled out… while it was only a $50 Haul, it was just enough to get me going to the gym consistently.  I had no excuse not to go because I had all that I needed.  Not only that, on the weeks when I wasn’t able to meet my work out goal due to ministry obligations, I didnt beat myself up either, it was win, win.

7. Realize that meal prep takes A LOT of time but it’s worth it
Let’s file this under things Pinterest never tells you but should. They’ll give you a million great ideas for food prep but they never tell you it takes your WHOLE SUNDAY. And let me be honest it does.

Invest in 5 solid recipes and 2 healthy cheats. you can alternate that for three weeks before getting tired of food choices.  And to be honest the BEST way to get a grip on calorie intake is meal prep.  That includes snacks and emergency meals too.

To date I’ve lost over 15lbs. and I’ve reached my “goal” weight.   Now I am working to maintain my health and chisel my body.  Let me know what you do or if anyof these steps work for you!

Here’s to long life and good health!
